About this site

Internationally, education for adults and young people other than school education is called "Adult Learning and Education (ALE)". This site has organized relevant official documents and information in order to understand the international ALE philosophy and framework. I would like to post and disseminate information in order to contribute to the revitalization of ALE initiatives in Japan and the movement to achieve SDG4 worldwide.

In June 2022, the 7th UNESCO International Conference on Adult Education (commonly known as CONFINTEA VII) will be held in Marrakech, Morocco. This only ALE-focused international conference is a valuable conference as it is held only once every 12 years after the war. The Development Education Association / DEAR volunteered to launch the "ALE Project Team" in 2021 in order to commit to the conference from civil society toward CONFINTEA VII. Our main purpose is to raise interest in and promote ALE in Japan, and we are working with the cooperation of related organizations .

You can see the details of CONFINTEA VII and the background and background of the project launch from the following. Greetings from the representative

The Development Education Association, which operates this site, will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. Only recently have the terms SDGs and sustainable development become known, but what is development in the first place, what is the problem, and what kind of education is for desirable development? , We have developed an activity called development education in Japan to learn, think and act together.

Specifically, in addition to planning and managing various study groups, workshops, and civic lectures, we have expanded the network of learning activity support with public halls, social education groups, NGOs, NPOs, etc. all over the country. .. In terms of overseas relations, we have a long-standing collaborative relationship as a member of the East Asian region of ASPBAE, a council of civil society organizations working on adult education and basic education in the Asia-South Pacific region.

The International Adult Education Conference has been attended by the people concerned since the 5th International Adult Education Conference held in Hamburg, Germany in 1997, and I also participated in the previous conference in Belem, Brazil. I did. For this 7th meeting, UNESCO has regularly conducted hearing surveys on the progress of the "Beren Action Framework" adopted at the previous conference in each country. With the cooperation of academic societies and related organizations, we proposed a proposal for a response to UNESCO to the Ministry of Education, and we asked them to adopt some of them.

The Hamburg Declaration, adopted in 1997, has already mentioned sustainable development, saying that only human-centered development and participatory societies can bring about sustainable and equitable development. A quarter of a century has passed since then, and I think that this point has become more and more meaningful and valuable in the era of the SDGs. Why is it necessary for adults and youth to learn to realize a just, peaceful and sustainable society in which we can live together? And what are the challenges and roles of adult education and social education in the future? We hope that this site will contribute to the first step toward the future.
